Within halal standards, legal practice is based on a power-of-attorney (representation) agreement.

• Rejection of Unjust Cases: A lawyer may not defend a party who is knowingly in the wrong, who oppresses others, or who tries to seize another's right. Legal representation may be undertaken only so that what is right is established.
• Representation of Haram Businesses: The office may not provide legal support that expands or protects the activities of businesses directly contrary to halal (for example, casinos, alcohol producers, banks and insurance organizations, etc.) in commercial disputes concerning them.
• Representing Truth and Justice: The office's management takes on the legal defense only of cases it believes to be in the right and that are not contrary to halal. Defending a party known to be in the wrong, or activities harmful to society, is refused.
• Principles of Honesty and Transparency: Using methods such as false statements, forgery and deceiving the court in legal proceedings is strictly not halal. Preparing forged documents or coaching false witnesses in order to win in court is absolutely not halal. A lawyer must defend the client's rights only by lawful and halal means.
• Interest (Riba) Transactions: A lawyer may accept a mandate for a debtor to repay only the principal debt, but acting as an intermediary in demanding interest (riba) and collecting it through the courts is not halal.
• Lawyer's fee: The lawyer's fee must be determined in advance and be clear, so that no dispute arises between the parties from this uncertainty. However, it may also be agreed that the lawyer takes a certain percentage of the amount won only if the case is won. Under these halal standards this is accepted as Ju'ala (a reward tied to the outcome). But setting a fixed service fee in advance is considered more acceptable and free of dispute.
• Privacy and Trust: All information a client gives to a lawyer is, from the halal standpoint, in the position of an Amanah (trust). Leaking this information to outsiders in a way that harms the client is considered a breach of trust, both legally and from the halal standpoint.
