Halal conditions

The business owner follows halal rules in their personal life.

  • Cognac and other alcohol-containing substances are not added to the products.
  • Pork-derived gelatin, fat, tallow, etc. are not added
  • They openly state the name and brand of the fat/butter and chocolate used in the products, and they photograph and show them.
  • Used in their products:
    1. Westgold (New Zealand) The manufacturer Westland Milk Products states in an official document that it holds a Halal certificate. Certification is carried out by NZIDT (New Zealand Islamic Development Trust). NZIDT is an official, internationally rated Islamic certification body recognised by the New Zealand Government's Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Certificates issued by NZIDT are officially recognised and accredited by all the world's leading Halal standards bodies, such as Saudi Arabia (SFDA), the UAE (MOIAT/ESMA), Malaysia (JAKIM), Indonesia (BPJPH/MUI) and Turkey (HAK). Note that the butter is reported to consist only of natural cow cream (and salt in the salted variety), with no additives, margarine or animal honeycomb/gelatin inside. However, although all other certificates are present on their official website, we could not find a halal certificate.
    2. Svalia / Сваля (Lithuania — "Pieno Zvaigzdes") The international certification body "World Halal Trust" has issued, to the cheese products made at the production plants of AB "Pieno Žvaigždės", to which the Svalia brand belongs, a halal certificate. Svalia's mozzarella and whey products made at this plant are officially Halal certified. Butter is not mentioned in the certificate. Butter is usually made not at a cheese plant (Sūrinė) but at milk/cream processing plants (for example, Pieno Centras or similar branches). Note that because animal-derived rennet (liquid rennet) and enzymes are used in cheese production, a halal certificate for it is essential. Butter, however, usually contains only pure cream, so some producers certify butter separately, or offer it as a natural dairy product without any certificate.
    3. Valio (Finland / Estonia) On Valio's official website it is officially declared that its cheese plants are certified by HFFIA (Halal Feed and Food Inspection Authority) and produce in line with Islamic standards. However, there is no information about butter. An e-mail was sent to the company to obtain this information. The reply will be recorded here.
    4. Belcolade (Puratos group – Belgium) Belcolade chocolates are produced at its plant in Belgium under the oversight of international Halal accreditation organisations (for example, Halal Quality Control - HQC). It contains pure cocoa butter and natural vanilla, with no animal honeycomb, alcohol or pork fat additive.
    5. Callebaut / Barry Callebaut (Belgium) Callebaut's well-known 811 (dark) and 823 (milk) chocolates, its White chocolates (W2) and its hazelnut products (hazelnut paste, praline, hazelnut crocant, etc.) are made at Halal-certified plants. The hazelnut products mainly use natural hazelnuts, sugar and vegetable/cocoa oils.
